INTRODUCTION

The Info Tree is a participatory data physicalization project that transforms academic progress data into a playful, tactile, and community-oriented experience. Developed with course data from the Pratt Institute’s School of Information, the project engages students in creating sculptural, tree-shaped representations of their own academic journeys using clay components—each symbolizing a course offered at the school. These tree forms are autographic, reflecting course completion and also personal reflection, with students invited to attach “leaves” to represent their most meaningful takeaways or proudest projects.

This project aims at creating a prototype for community engagement and data literacy advocacy through the lens of critical making, product design, and interactive information experience design. It explres how structured data (such as academic records) can be recontextualized to support introspection, play, and collective storytelling.
